The Monarchs are heading South now. I have been watching them soar up into the air, golden in the sun, glorious orange and black jewels against the azure sky. The butterflies I release this time of year have an anxious air to their departure. It’s as if they know they have a long way to go and little time to get there… It’s an odd, sad and sweet feeling to watch them disappear so quickly from sight.
It’s already September. School has started, and I only have a few caterpillars left munching away and the release cage is looking empty with only one or two Monarchs hatching out the last several days… Soon I shall be cleaning and packing away the gear. Stashing it to wait for when the Monarch’s grandchildren return next Spring… *sigh*
I can’t fly along with them… but I am happy to send so many on their way. The garden is quiet except for a few crickets. So, I’ll just let the weeds grow a bit longer… then go inside… There are kittens to play with… and a lonely piece of apple pie waiting for me.
Day 3 of my September project. This time I am doing a different theme for each day of the week.
And today is “Whatever Wednesday” … And today’s “whatever” is Monarch Butterflies.
Those who have followed me for a while, know that I raise Monarchs and release the butterflies. I’ve been doing this for twenty years. Look for a later post with stats on how many I have released so far in 2014. 🙂
So, here we go…. September’s different themes for each day of the week:
“Tale Spin Tuesday”
& “Seriously Silly Sunday”
