The dark sky opened up and rain poured down
Filling the empty spaces between my breaths
A heartbeat keeping time with my panic
Twenty-seven minutes after when the hour strikes two

..

I waited for you, the bus stop smelled of old tobacco
A bent nail sticking out of the letter carved bench
Caught and tore the edge of my favorite blue shirt
The dark sky opened up and rain poured down

..

I stole that shirt from you the first night you stayed
It brings me comfort, the feel of it’s silky touch against my skin
I let the lingering fragrance of your love enter my mind
Filling the empty spaces between my breaths

..

The 2:10 bus stopped, with a gusty exhale of fumes and dust
Doors open then close, strangers parade before my searching eyes
My ears filled with sinking pressure of fear, the rhythm of
A heartbeat keeping time with my panic

..

The walk home was long, wet, confusing, behind the door I found it
Silent empty rooms echo back, waterdrops, windows, paper unfolding
A heart, still, cold, timeless. My eyes drown in your horrid letter at
Twenty-seven minutes after when the hour strikes two

.
