When you stop talking, you don’t stop speaking…

And you listen more with your eyes, than you do with your ears…

Silence is filled with a million stories, and music of the body electric…

And one look can break your heart, or fill you with love and joy…

Say it with silence… it speaks so much louder than words…

Playing with Glass

Breaking the looking glass…

Shards of a dream…
The broken promise of a tea party…
Madness bleeds across the fractured surface…
Sleeps slips in and steals a tray of cookies…
Painted roses forgotten…
Like a raindrop in a storm…

I am your Alice…
“Drink me!” they whisper…
The sounds of shuffling cards blend with shuffling feet…
“Drink me!” they whisper…
Like a drop in a storm…
“Drink me!” they whisper…
I am your Alice…

Shattered…

You invited me into this madness…
“I…
am…
home…” they whisper

I pick up a sliver of mirror…
A drop of blood…
Cuts…
A reflection…
Not my own…
I want to go home…

“You are our Alice!” they whisper…

“Tell me a riddle! Pour me some Tea! Off with your Head! A dreadfully ugly Baby!”
Voices running in panic…
Feet whispering in fear…
Time to talk of other things…
A drop of blood…
A reflection…
Shards of a dream…
The broken promise of a tea party…

“I am your Alice” I whisper…

Before the smile…

fades…

away…

“Drink me!”

I have been doing writing of a different sort lately… I have been telling stories through improvised theater. Recently, I had the chance to create and direct a improvised theater piece called “Breaking the Looking Glass”… I am so amazed at just how crazy it is to take an idea from inside my head, explain it to talented people, work with them to make it a reality… and then let it loose on the world!

We have had five shows so far… three more are happening in the next week. I wish you all could see it. Perhaps some of you will…

Consider yourselves invited….  We might even serve tea.

What happens when a middle aged mom says “Yes!” to the enthusiasm of improv geeks? … Well… She morphs of course!

“WHAT?” you might ask… You see I have been recruited by my friend Bryce, other wise known has the Zordon of Improv, to become an Improv Ranger!
That is exactly what it sounds like… You remember Power Rangers right? Well, we are improvisers with attitude, and we are here to fight the evil Rita as she tries to destroy our improvised world.

Six of my fellow Mighty Morphin Improv Rangers will be saving the world every Sunday night for the four weeks at HUGE Improv Theater!
(Well, not on Dec. 7th as Rita has promised to be good for the Improvisor of The Year Award Show. We’ll be there just in case she causes trouble…)

Yes, that’s me… I’m the Black Ranger! 😀

If you are in the Twin Cities area… come see us morphin and fighting Rita’s monsters, Sunday nights at 8pm Nov. 30th, Dec. 14th and Dec. 21st!

Black Mighty Morphin Ranger

Looks just like me… right?

Really, the range of long-form improv theater I get to do is amazingly fun! I hope some of you will be able to join me for the show… And if not, I hope you will stay tuned for more silliness that comes from my improvised lifestyle… because at the very heart of my “Life as Art… and a bit of Non-sense” is a core of improvisation…

In the mean whilst… I have to run to practice pretending!

It was all about Eve…

She was the star of the night…

She burned on stage ever so bright…

The audience laughed and the audience cried…

She caught their attention with each glance applied…

A slight gesture of hand or the tilt of her face…

Left no doubt as to her worth and grace…

She moved their hearts and she was loved by all…

Her very voice held the world in thrall…

When the curtain fell, and the bows complete…

Eve quietly disappeared, her moves discreet…

Admirers flocked, but she was gone…

No one had seen when she’d withdrawn…

For when the spotlight no longer shown…

Eve preferred to be all alone…

Actors…

When we can play the part of someone else…
We really don’t need to share ourself…
Yet a bit of us still shows through…
But being shy we hide from view…
The part of us we hold most dear…
Giving up that heart is our greatest fear…
So be kind, the actor must stay whole…
Or never again will we play the role…
That makes you smile or makes you weep…
And gives you dreams when you’re asleep…
