“Know yourself!” my mother always said
And I try to go where she led
I listen with care
To all I hear there
To the voices that scream in my head

The many voices in my head…

Speak to me in whispers…

Cutting away slices…

Sawing edges red…

Their quiet breaks the silence…

A knife upon a fragile thread…

For when they settle on me…

I know that sleep is dead…

.

In desperation I will turn…

And murmur back at them…

Chasing hope with logic…

With false bravado burn…

But silence can not be found…

As long as doubt can churn…

Sleep is a restless zombie…

For which I ever yearn…
